HAPPY 64th Birthday, Israel a Democracy Unlike Others
The 64 year history of Israel demonstrates the model, if any struggling nation should choose one, for establishing a nation of strength, security, prosperity, and willingness to engage in continual peace with its neighbors–all from the ashes of a World War II enemy choosing to destroy every living Jew from the face of the earth.

Odds defying, the following tribute celebrates the 64th anniversary of the birth of the modern state of Israel pointing out the rise of a first world nation and democracy in an arena of strife, constant war, threats, and hostility. Happy Birthday, Israel!

“Israel has the dubious distinction of being the only U.N. member state whose right to exist is regularly challenged, whose elimination from the world map is the aim of at least one other U.N. member state, Iran, and whose population centers are deemed fair game by Hamas-controlled Gaza and Hezbollah-dominated Lebanon. Thus, Israel’s sheer act of survival from year to year is itself noteworthy.

None of the countries that are serial human-rights violators — not Iran, North Korea, Belarus, Zimbabwe, Sudan, or any of the others — gets anything near the relentless, obsessive, guilty-till-proven-innocent scrutiny that democratic Israel receives from U.N. bodies, with their built-in, anti-Israel majorities, in New York and Geneva.

IRAN TALKS - Will US Squander Leverage?
Excellent report offered by Michael Singh the managing director of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. Here’s an excerpt from that report:

“The United States holds a strong bargaining position going into Friday’s scheduled nuclear talks with Iran. An Israeli military attack seems imminent. U.S.- and European Union-led sanctions on Iran’s Central Bank and oil exports are wreaking havoc on the Iranian economy. And yet, despite these massive pressures on the Iranian regime, it is not Tehran but the United States that is signalingthat it is prepared to make concessions — setting the stage for Washington’s unprecedented leverage to be squandered.

“The United States and its Western allies reportedly plan to demand that Iran suspend its higher-level enrichment activities, a position Secretary of State Hillary Clinton previewed in comments to the press April 1. The New York Times, citing American and European diplomats, also reported this weekend that Washington plans to insist that Iran close its Fordo uranium enrichment facility, which is buried beneath a mountain near the holy city of Qom…”
